Original bound handwritten manuscript (1881) accompanied by a bound set of proof sheets (1882) and a copy of the published book published under the title The graphic arts, a treatise on the varieties of drawing, painting, and engraving, in comparison with each other and with nature (1882). The manuscript has large blank inner margins and contains corrections, deletions, additional paragraphs and footnotes. In addition to these annotated changes, there are further significant differences between the manuscript and the published book. Bound at the back of the manuscript is the Sotheby's sale catalogue of Hamerton's library, 26 November 1895.
